LEED Homes

LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy. LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.

LEED Home gardens are intended to use less landscape irrigation through the use of native flora and naturalized plant material. This program uses light colored, high-albedo flagstone and gravels, as well as providing edible greenery. KLM has been involved with the LEED Home program for years, and has worked closely with the top LEED architects and home builders sun as LaVerne Williams, AIA, LEED AP with Environment Associates Architects, Gene Guthrie of Golden G Building, Inc and Les Albin with Lacon Homes, Inc.

LEED Client Review

Client: S. Balon

KLM did a complete landscape design for our new home, including moss rock retainingwalls, several flagstone paths, 24 inch wide gravel zone and weed barrier around main house, garage and shop building, plating a drought resistant grass from seed called Thunder Turf, installing numerous sprinkler stations and a timer system, and use of Texas native plants throughout.

The work was accomplished over several weeks, with a large crew on site several days each week. It went well and looks great. Kat Morton, owner, was happy to incorporate native plants, concentrating on drought and deer resistance as much as possible. Existing plants (trees and bushes) have being incorporated.
